Phu My Bridge

Phu My Bridge is up Yay! The location of the bridge is highly strategic because it will connect District 7 (Phu My Hung in particular) to District 2 ( Thu Thiem area- the new center of Ho Chi Minh city)

  2. Hi there,

I think your blog is very useful and keep up the good work.
I got an opportunity to “use” this bridge but not really sure of its engineering design! Although the strategic ideology is undeniably sound, its practicality reflected by its engineering design seems to be debatable. We drove a Fortuner SUV and reached almost to the center of the bridge slagging on 3rd gear ! this means that its curve point is too stiff, despite the need of required height for river traffic underneath. This can be solved by spreading the slopes on both sides.

When the bridge is too “stiff” means more gasoline sipped by heavy vehicles and more tires to be worn, especially those big container lorries, and timing required for those turtles to get over the bridge! Imagine, in Vietnam we have and still have many “vintage” trucks which are poor maintained, one broke out in the middle of the bridge than the entire flow simply frozen to enjoy the river view! There is no passing area or dual lanes except for the bike lane which is not enough to escape when being jammed by the “dead” truck. On that day the traffic was light so it is fine to get by with our SUV.

I know many of us are proud of the achievement, and I don’t know why I put my comment here maybe it is just by chance I saw this blog. I am not a bridge engineer but from my place to work I pass many bridges and many places I have been to never had I seen this amazing bridge like this. Hope this comment is shared with you at least.

Thanks for putting up this topic.

    Best day,
    Hai
